What's your song????

So I'm listening to Steve Harvey today and he asked a question - if you could pick one song to hear for the rest of your life, what would that song be? His choice was a song by Earth, Wind & Fire. I think it was called "Love Holiday" or something like that. He played it on "Kings of Comedy"...it went something like this:

Would you mind if I touch, if I kiss, if I held you tight in the morning light
Would you mind if I said how I felt tenderly tonight again cause
I never ever felt this way in my heart before
Love has a holiday in my heart tonight

Today was the first time I actually listened to those words...beautiful song. I need to step up my "old skool" game forreal. Late 80's/early 90's is NOT old enough LOL

So what would your song be???????

Late 80's/90's is old skool enough to me! LOL But I feel you.

I like that song though.

Dang, there are so many awesome songs out there that really speak to me.

But if I had to choose just one it would probably be, dang, I can't choose just one, I keep thinking and more than one comes in and out of my head. I'll go with this though: Casanova Brown, by Teena Marie. It's jazzy, its soulful, its melodic. It has everything and it speaks volumes. Love Love Love this song.

Strong contenders are: Footsteps in the dark (Isley's), Gently (Ready for the World), Respect (Minnie Ripperton), Long Walk (Jill Scott), House is Not a Home (Luther Vandross), Songbird (Eva Cassidy), With me (Dido). Goodness there's so much good music out there.

What do ya'll think of Timbaland's new group One Republic? That song "Apologize" is that deal!

I've never heard of them? Now I'm going to have to go do some research.

I'm with you, Mae. I LOVE so many songs. I can't pick one. Hmmm...just one....I don't think I can. Let me think some more. LOL

Wow, Pri. You did bring back soooooo many memories. Wow. And you're right, certain songs do play a special place in your heart....kinda like the soundtrack to your life.

Wait, why did I download that Shai song with JayZ the other day?

'Cause that "I don't wanna be alone" is the shit! I was one of the biggest Shai fans--subconsciously, I'm sure that also played a part in my decision to attend Howard :D--and when I was sure that song was a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, that song never got the nation wide air time it deserved. But it was a banger out here.

If you need help with your ol skool schooling, let me know. I have tons of it. I'm not a person that chooses old over new music. Good music is good music across the board and all of it should be able to be listened to by all people. This garbage out now makes it hard for our older generations to embrace the new music.

Oh my goodness! I am HUGE Earth, Wind, and Fire fan and I listen "Love's Holiday" at least once a week. It may sound stupid, but I listen to it reaffirm my belief in true love and courtship. Whenver that song comes on, I just close my eyes (even if I'm driving) and just listen to the words while singing as loud as I can. Another song I really dig is "Zoom" by the Commodores. I also love "Anyone Who Had a Heart" (Luther), "Love Ballad" (LTD), "Angel" (Anita Baker), "Down Deep Hoola" and "Suite Lady" (Maxwell), "Eternal Love" and "Nothing Has Already Felt Like This" (Will Downing, really anything by Will).

I'm with Mae. There are so many songs out there that I can't choose just one. Each song takes me to many places in my life making it hard to choose just one. For me, each song brings about a different feel good (or bad) moment. These songs are really my joints that I can listen to at any given time and make me feel really good. Guy, New Edition, R.Kelly with the Public Announcement, Digital Underground, Tribe, and Salt & Pepa's music all have some good party cuts that take me back to my childhood. Like a few weeks ago, Jessy played "Housekeeper" by Men of Vision on the way to work and I WENT OFF!!! That song reminds me of high school. While it may not be that classic banger, it is something that reminds of high school. Then I have the cuts of my college days: "Only U" (112 w Biggie), " "Black Girl Lost" (Nas), Po Pimp (Do or Die), "I Don't Want to Be Alone" remix (Shai w Jay Z), "MCs Act Like They Don't Know (KRS One), "Down 4 My Niggaz" (some people on No Limit), "Cell Therapy" (Goodie Mobb), "Ambitionz As a Ridah" (2Pac), and "Ex-Factor" (Lauryn Hill) that I can hear and know exactly where I was, what I was doing, and a strong feeling of nostalgia overcomes me. Woooo, Just looking at these songs as I type is making me reflect on days of yore and thanking God for them.

I'm a 95 sistah all day and I think most music of the 90's will always hold a special place in my heart.

I haven't heard the song by One Republic, but I'm about to look for it right now.

Wow...this is hard...I have sooo many! My favorite song is "All This Love" by Debarge, but like Pri, I LOVE Earth, Wind and Fire. I love "Shining Star", "Can't Hide Love" and "After the Love Has Gone"... So I couldn't neccesarily just do one song...possibly a cd. Debarge or Earth, Wind and Fire's Greatest Hits. I also love Faith, India Arie and Musiq's first cds, and the Above the Rim and Menance to Society soundtracks. And Pri, I love "Down 4 my Niggaz" too! I remember the first time I strolled to it and sweat my hair out...lol...Oh and DJ Quick and AMG's first cd...I remember playing them out in middle school, as well as Tevin Campbell's "Alone with you"....

Memories, I tell ya...

Jay, I had no idea you were a big EWF fan as well! I love them! I have many of their CDs and appreciate those that like their music. And no you didn't say AMG's first CD! Why does that remind me of Darrick the fine ass AE!

Yep, I'm loving EW&F...Love Tribe Called Quest too...Speaking of Tribe...

Where's my cds?

Pri said...

Okay, I'll leave your music preference alone. LOL I have owed you those CDs for about a year so it's time I get on it. As a matter of fact, I'm going to burn the first one right now.
